Sound Cravers
ABOUT / PRESERVING TWEAKHEADZ

KEEP THE SIGNAL ALIVE.

SoundCravers is an independent recreation and preservation project inspired by the old TweakHeadz Lab website. It exists to keep useful recording and music-production knowledge accessible, organized, readable, and alive for the next person trying to figure out how all of this stuff works.

WHY SOUNDCRAVERS EXISTS

Rebuilding a site that helped people learn audio.

For years, TweakHeadz Lab was one of those places people found when they were trying to make sense of home recording. Its guides walked readers through subjects such as MIDI, audio interfaces, signal flow, microphones, studio setup, acoustics, mixing, mastering, computers, synthesizers and the practical realities of building a home studio.

The original Guide was structured like a course: start with the core basics of modern music technology, then keep moving into deeper studio-production topics. Musicians continued recommending it in recording communities long after many of the products mentioned in its articles had become vintage. What lasted was the way the material tried to explain complicated subjects in language that a new musician could actually follow.

Over time the original website disappeared, old links broke, images vanished and surviving copies became scattered across web archives, PDFs, mirrors and old forum references. SoundCravers was created from that surviving material—not to pretend the original site never went away, but to give that knowledge a usable home again.

IN MEMORY OF TWEAK

A teacher to people he never met.

Many of the surviving TweakHeadz articles were credited to Rich “the TweakMeister.” His preserved artist biography describes a life spent around electronic music: starting with guitar, moving into synthesizers and MIDI, working with early sequencing systems, contributing to programming for the Alesis QS8 and related sound cards, beta testing Logic Audio, and creating more than a thousand pieces of music of his own.

People still remember learning from TweakHeadz years later. In music-production discussions, former readers have described the site as a place where they first learned about interfaces, DAWs, plugins, mixing, MIDI and building a studio. Community recollections also report that Tweak passed away and that the site was kept going for a time afterward by a family member before eventually disappearing.

We have not found a reliable public source that gives an exact date or cause of Tweak’s death, so SoundCravers will not invent one. The tribute here is about what can be documented: he put a remarkable amount of practical knowledge on the web, shared his enthusiasm for sound freely, and helped strangers take their first steps into recording and electronic music.

SoundCravers is, in part, a thank-you. Rebuilding these guides is a way to keep a piece of that work from quietly disappearing.

HELP PRESERVE THE HISTORY

CONTRIBUTE TO SOUNDCRAVERS.

This recreation was assembled from surviving material, and some pieces of the original site are still missing. Contributions can help make the preservation more complete and more accurate.

01

Missing Images

Original TweakHeadz graphics, diagrams, screenshots, photos or article images that no longer exist in the recovered copy.

02

Lost Articles

Saved HTML pages, PDFs, printouts or text from guides that are incomplete, damaged or missing from the surviving collection.

03

Corrections

Broken links, migration mistakes, incorrect article titles, duplicated pages or anything that changed meaning during the recreation.

04

Memories & Context

First-hand memories of Tweak, TweakHeadz Lab, Studio-Central, or how the old guides helped you learn recording and production.

PRESERVATION PRINCIPLE

The goal is not to rewrite TweakHeadz history or claim ownership of someone else’s legacy. The goal is to preserve what can still be recovered, clearly identify this as a recreation, improve navigation and readability, and keep the useful knowledge available.

ONE MORE TIME AROUND THE SIGNAL CHAIN

THE OLD SITE IS GONE.
THE KNOWLEDGE DOESN’T HAVE TO BE.

SoundCravers is a modern home for a body of work that mattered to a lot of musicians. If it helps one more person understand MIDI, wire their first interface, improve a recording, or finally understand what a compressor is doing, then preserving it was worth the effort.
